The Seymour Salmonid Society is a non-profit organization that is responsible for running the Seymour River Fish Hatchery and Education Centre. Our purpose is to enhance fish stocks and encourage proper management of fisheries in the Seymour River. We also aim to educate the public about the value of the Seymour River and the salmonids it supports as a resource for everyone living in British Columbia.
What you can see at the Seymour Hatchery in February
All of our steelhead and coho fry are outside in the rearing channels and will stay there until the spring.
We have completed the spawning of 78 pairs of coho for our hatchery program. The first of these fish have hatched, developed into fry and are now in the rearing shed being fed.
We have steelhead on site for broodstock, ask a staff member to show them to you.
There is a new bridge across the river just above the hatchery. It is not open to the public yet as Metro Vancouver is having some issues with the trail leading up to the road on the other side. We expect that it will not open up until the spring next year.
