Staff

The Seymour Hatchery has a staff of 3 full time workers and a seasonal worker who works from around July to January. See below to find out more about us.

Brian Smith - Manager

Brian Smith

Brian graduated from the Fish and Wildlife Technology program at Sault College of Applied Arts and Technology in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario in 1989. Brian moved to B.C. in 1990 and has worked on behalf of the fisheries resource ever since. Brian currently is the manager of the Seymour Fish Hatchery and has worked with the Seymour Salmonid Society for over 16 years. Brian is involved with several related groups: British Columbia Wildlife Federation (BCWF), South Coast Steelhead Coalition (SCSC), Streamkeepers, Salmon Enhancement Habitat Advisory Board (SEHAB)(director) and the Water Use Planning Committee for the Seymour and Capilano Watersheds.

Marc Guimond

Marc Guimond

Marc graduated with a degree in biology from the University of Guelph. He moved to British Columbia in 1997 from Ontario and became involved with the Seymour River Hatchery in 1998. He jumped at the opportunity to work with fish upon moving out West. He has two kids who are growing up with the same affinity for rivers, forests, mountains and curiosity of the intricacies of nature.

Ed Walls

Ed Walls

Ed moved to Canada from New Zealand late in 2007. Vancouver was chosen for its more moderate climate compared to the rest of Canada and its world renowned salmon fishing. After being a high school teacher for a number of years in New Zealand he has follwed his passion of fishing into the postion of volunteer coordinator at the hatchery which he has done for the past year. Apart from co-ordinating volunteering his duties also include all aspects of fish culture, running of the hatchery and the creation of this new look website.
