GENTLY DOWN THE SEYMOUR SPRING BOOKING INFORMATION

hit counter

Dear Teachers:
Gently Down the Seymour is a program created and designed for teachers and students grades 1 through 6, participating in Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Salmonids in the Classroom program, to have a chance to experience the life of salmon in their natural habitat in the Seymour watershed and in the Seymour Hatchery environment.

The Seymour Salmonid Society works hard each year to gather funds to offer this free spring field trip opportunity to fifty registered Salmonids in the Classroom classes (upon receipt of a $60 refundable deposit).  Field trip spaces are limited and book up very quickly.
Please note that we can only host one class each day and we cannot mix primary and intermediate level students.
Things to know and steps to follow to book your class for a Gently Down the Seymour visit:

1.      Ensure that you are a registered Salmonids in the Classrooms class and that you are presently raising salmon in your classroom.  If you are uncertain, contact your district coordinator or Bev Bowler – bbowler@telus.net (Salmonids in the Classroom Education Coordinator).
Make sure that your district coordinator or Bev Bowler has your email address, school name, and phone number.

3.      A notice will be emailed on Monday, January 26, 2009 to all teachers who are on their district coordinators’ contact list to prepare you for the official booking date.

4.      The official 2009 GDS booking date is Wednesday, February 4th, 2009.  Bookings will not be accepted prior to this date and the application must be made in your name.

5.      Please be prepared to provide your name, school name, class grade, number of students, and a list of at least three (minimum) preferred dates

6.      A period of one week is required to process all booking requests after which you will be informed of the success of your application.
